Power plant in Nogales evacuated due to suspicious device

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Nogales Police and federal authorities are investigating an incendiary device ignited at a power plant in Nogales Wednesday morning.

Around 9:30 a.m., Nogales police received a call from the security staff at Unisource Energy Services power plan regarding a suspicious device at the Valencia substation at 1741 N Grand Avenue in Nogales.

An incendiary device had been placed at the base of one of the large diesel tanks at the facility. The device ignited, but did not cause the tank to combust.

The power plant and a neighboring car dealership were evacuated all day. The plan service was not interrupted. 

FBI and ATF are investigating the incident. The will likely remain a crime scene through the night.
