A West Chester Boy Scout troop had to be rescued Thursday after its canoes capsized in a Minnesota lake.
Boy Scout Troop 990 was canoeing in the Boundary Waters in northern Minnesota when strong winds caused the waters to become rough, says a mother of one of the scouts who was not in Minnesota at the time.
According to the Lake County Minnesota Sheriff's office, officials received a call that three adults and five kids in two canoes were paddling on Basswood Lake when their canoes capsized. All eight people were rescued.
Since the area is so secluded, six of them had to be flown out by a USFS float plane and the two others were taken out by rescue boats. The six flown out by plane were taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The other two were treated at a nearby resort.
According to FOX21 in Duluth, Minn., wind gusts peaked at 40 miles per hour Thursday.
