TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tucson Police arrested a 33-year-old man after he allegedly arranged to have sex with an underage girl.

According to a Tucson Police Department news release, Steven Lawrence Cathcart allegedly admitted to detectives during his interview that it was his intention to meet with the girl for sex, and that he had allegedly participated in sexual conduct with a minor on several occasions in 2011.

The arrest was part of an investigation conducted by TPD's Internet Crimes Against Children Unit and the Child Sexual Assault Unit.

During the investigation Cathcart had been having a conversation with someone he thought to be an underage girl, but was in fact a Tucson Police detective.

Police say Cathcart set up a meeting with the girl, and was instead met by Tucson Police and the U.S. Marshals Service.  He was taken into custody without incident.

Cathcart was booked into the Pima County Jail on the following charges - six counts of sexual conduct with a minor, aggravated luring a minor for sexual exploitation, luring a minor for sexual exploitation, and sexual abuse of a minor.

Police urge parents to continually monitor their children's social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat or other social media sites they may use.  Knowing who they are in contact with online is crucial for their safety.
