TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Some Arizonans may be eligible for payments now that a settlement has been reached with a mortgage lender.

Arizona is one of 49 states to reach the deal with SunTrust Mortgage Inc.

State Attorney General Tom Horne's office says the settlement means some Arizona borrowers may be eligible for loan modifications and for payments for past foreclosure abuses.

Horne's office says about 2,300 borrowers whose loans were serviced by SunTrust and who lost their homes to foreclosure will be eligible for payments.

The eligible borrowers will be contacted with information on how to qualify for payments.

A two-day housing recovery event will be held June 27 and 28, at which borrowers can meet with counselors to avoid foreclosure and get help with principal reduction, mortgage assistance, one-time recovery, loan modification and loan refinance.
