A suspect has been named in a Tuesday afternoon shooting that was witnessed by Cincinnati Police officers.
23-year-old Peter Carr is charged with felonious assault for allegedly shooting a man on an Avondale sidewalk. Carr is still on the loose and police said they're looking into the possibility of a second suspect.
Officers were driving on Reading Road Tuesday when they reportedly witnessed a suspect shoot another man near the Hirsch Recreation Center.
"I honestly believe the shooter did not know the police officer was right there until they stopped the car, he go out, and at gunpoint, they demanded he surrender," said Lt. Alan March. Carr then threw his weapon and fled the scene. The gun was reportedly stolen.
"Nobody expects to witness a shooting, even a cop," March told FOX19.
The victim was taken to the hospital with reported non-life threatening injuries.
The shooting happened about 200 feet from the Hirsch Recreation Center where a children's day camp was going on inside. The facility was put on lock down and all the kids were kept safely indoors, according to Recreation Manager Karen Williams.
"I have to say today Cincinnati Police really earned their stripes. They are an amazing group of professionals and they made us all feel extremely safe," Williams said.
A large crowd was gathered on the sidewalk prior to the shooting and police said multiple witnesses have come forward.
