TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Reid Park Zoo wants the community to help celebrate the upcoming arrival of one of its own.

The zoo will host a baby shower for Semba, its pregnant African elephant, on June 29 from 8 to 10 a.m. The zoo said Semba has been pregnant for 22 months and is the zoo's first pregnant elephant.

It is not known yet whether the unborn elephant, expected in about three weeks, will be male or female.

The first 100 guests will receive cupcakes and staff will provide a "cake" for the elephant herd, in addition to gifts of food for them to open. Guests will be able to take part in crafts, activities, shower games and can sign a card to welcome the future baby. Zoo keepers will explain pregnancy care to the crowd and will offer free tours of the Elephant Care Center at 9:30 a.m., according to zoo officials.

Those interested in donating or bringing a shower gift can check Semba's "baby wish list," put together by zoo keepers: http://reidparkzoo.org/baby-elephant-info/sembas-baby-wish-list/.

The fire has been a sore point for some people in Tucson who consider it best forgotten but Paul d'Hedouville said he has not received any negative feedback from the nearly 300 people he has talked to about the fire and the proposed memorial.
