Devin Mesoraco tied a team record with a home run in his fifth consecutive game, but the Reds lost at Wrigley Field 7-3.
Mesoraco hit a solo homer in his last at bat to keep his streak alive. The most recent Red to accomplish the feat was Adam Dunn in 2008. Only five other players in Reds history have homered in five consecutive games.
It took the Reds more than six innings to record their first hit. Working on a perfect game, Cubs starter Jake Arrieta lost his bid for a historic night when Billy Hamilton singled to start the seventh inning.
The Cubs beat up Reds starter Homer Bailey. Bailey left the game in the 6th inning after allowing four earned runs.
The Reds and Cubs finish the three game series on Wednesday. The Reds need to win to win a fourth straight series.
