How clean is your favorite beach?

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

That sparkling water and sandy beaches may not be as clean or safe as they look.  For those heading to the beach for the Fourth or summer vacation, a reminder - do some research first.

Researchers with the Natural Resource Defense Council have monitored more than 3,000 beaches across the U.S. along both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, as well as the Gulf of Mexico and the Great Lakes.  The results from the annual 'Testing the waters' report say that ten percent of U.S. beaches have failed the government's swimmer safety standards.

The biggest contributor to beach closings and health advisories - storm water pollution; this means untreated sewage spills and overflows are the major cause.
