TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Arizona Board of Regents will decide on Thursday whether to authorize negotiations that could unite Tucson's biggest health care system with the biggest one in Phoenix.

University of Arizona Health Network said last month it's in preliminary discussions about a partnership with Banner Health, which operates 23 hospitals.

UAHN  operates UAMC, the UA Medical Center's south campus at Kino, a number clinics and three health insurance plans.

The university says the Arizona Cancer Center does not fall under the UAHN umbrella.
