HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

Crews have finally left the scene of a gas leak at a Henrico shopping center that forced evacuation of shops and restaurants for most of Thursday.

Businesses at the Westbury Shopping Center were closed Thursday after a ruptured gas line underground prompted evacuations.

The call came in around 10:20 a.m. Thursday. There was a smell of gas in the dialysis center; 14 patients had to be evacuated to another business then transported to another dialysis center.

Melito's employees were also evacuated. There were no customers in the building at the time of the evacuation.

Businesses in the shopping center were beginning to reopen late Thursday afternoon, although authorities said the dialysis center would remain closed until Friday.
