First leg of construction starts Oracle Road this week

PIMA COUNTY, AZ ( Tucson News Now) -

Plan for extra travel time on Oracle Road near Oro Valley, as crews begin the first leg of a long-term construction project.

The right lane on northbound Oracle Road will shut down between Tangerine Road and Wilds Road Thursday night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

This is near the Pinal County Line, as Oracle Road turns into State Route 77. These closures will be in place so workers can reset temporary barriers between the work zone and the roadway.

This will especially help bicyclists, as the new barrier placement should give them more room to ride next to cars on the road in this spot.

However, these closures will especially affect people heading towards Catalina, Globe, Saddlebrook or the town of Oracle.

In addition, the right lane of northbound State Route 77 will shut down nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Monday, June 30 and Tuesday, July 1 to install another new barrier.

This will apply to about a mile and a half of road, from Mountainaire Drive to Golder RanchRoad.

Arizona Department of Transportation wants to remind drivers and cyclists to be careful in this specific area, as there won't be a shoulder while this new lane is constructed.

Everyone has to slow down to 45 miles per hour and drive carefully. Department of Public Safety officers will also be present in the area to watch for speeders.
