A mother and son were arrested Thursday night following an undercover drug bust operation by the Butler County Sheriff's Office in Hamilton.
Sheriff Richard Jones said Lavonda Baker, 49, of Hamilton, was a passenger in a van driven by her son, 22-year-old Chad Baker. Authorities arrested the pair after reportedly taking part in an undercover drug deal at about 6:30 p.m. in a parking lot in the 800 block of High Street.
Jones said as Baker's van was approached in the parking lot by undercover and marked Sheriff's vehicles, he attempted to flee and used his van to hit two undercover vehicles several times before he was stopped.
Chad Baker was taken into custody and charged with second degree felony counts of drug trafficking and drug possession as well as three counts of felonious assault.
Deputies said his mother, a participant in the drug transaction, had a loaded handgun in her possession. Jones said she had a concealed carry permit, which was confiscated.
Lavonda Baker also faces a second degree felony charge of drug trafficking.
In addition, authorities recovered 140 oxycodone pills and a machete from the van.
