Vet center asks for pet blood donations

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Southern Arizona Veterinary Blood Bank says the July 4 weekend is a busy time for emergency veterinary centers, which are in need of animal blood donations.

The Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty and ER is the only animal blood bank in Tucson. It said it's in dire need of cat and dog donors at its animal blood draw on June 27 and 28 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. According to the bank, it takes about 15 minutes.

Any cat or dog can donate blood if it meets the following criteria:

- between the ages of 1 and 7

- cats over 10 lbs.

- dogs over 50 lbs.

- has never been pregnant

- is spayed/neutered

- is current on all vaccinations

- is of good overall temperament

The facility is located at 141 E Fort Lowell Road.
