TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A Pinal County Sheriff's deputy has been cleared of criminal wrongdoing after he shot and killed a suspect driving a stolen car.

The incident in January 2014 raised a lot of questions when it was caught on a cell phone camera.

The department hired an outside consultant to enhance and study the raw video. The question was whether the suspect had posed a threat before he was shot, by appearing to reach into the car for a gun after a chase.

The timing of the shots heard on the video was also called into question and whether they matched what actually happened.

The suspect never produced a gun and the sheriff's department maintained the deputy had to make a split-second decision.

The Arizona Attorney General's Office studied the complete videos and found the deputy didn't break the law.
