TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A high speed chase on Broadway ended in a four vehicle crash and the recovery of a stolen vehicle Sunday morning, according to Tucson Police Department PIO Chris Widmer.

At 9:56 a.m., a TPD officer attempted to stop a vehicle near 29th and Alvernon. The driver did not pull over and stop, so the officer turned on his sirens. The driver increased speed and continued on to run several stop signs.

The officer pursued the vehicle northbound on Wilmot. The suspect swerved and continued driving the wrong way southbound on Wilmot and took off at a high speed.

The officer ceased following the vehicle at this point. The car was last seen heading northbound on Wilmot and 22nd.

Soon after, a four vehicle collision occurred at Wilmot and Broadway. One of the vehicles involved was the suspect vehicle. Two men attempted to flee for the vehicle on foot.

Officers chased and caught the men and they were detained. Police have determined that the suspect vehicle is stolen. The driver of the stolen car was charged with multiple felonies related to auto theft, burglary and public endangerment.

One person in the four vehicle accident suffered minor injuries but did not need to be taken to the hospital.

A secondary accident occurred eastbound on Broadway involving a four or five car pileup in front of Park Place Mall.

Broadway is closed between eastbound and Wilmot and Wilmot is closed southbound.
