TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A special Tucson Mayor and Council meeting is scheduled for Monday to determine the city's next manager and figure out what is next for a piece of property west of downtown.

That special meeting begins at 6 p.m. and one of the major items on the agenda will be a discussion on the process for recruiting and selecting a new City Manager.

Earlier this year current City Manager Richard Miranda announced that he was retiring, it becomes effective at the end of July. The City Council voted Assistant City Manager Martha Durkin to serve as interim manager until the position can be filled.

Also on the agenda is the fate of 250 acres of land known as the 'Painted Hills Property'. It is located a few miles west of Pima Community College's West Campus in the Tucson Mountain foothills.

According to officials Pima County has reached a tentative agreement to buy the land from the city.  The public could see more hiking and recreation in the park if the deal goes through.
