COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

The South Carolina Gamecocks men's basketball team is expected to be without incoming freshman Shamiek Sheppard this upcoming season.

According to USC Sports Information, Sheppard has an ACL tear in his right knee and is expected to miss the 2014-15 season.

"We feel awful for Shamiek with his injury," Martin said. "He has worked so hard to put himself in position to play at South Carolina. We look forward to supporting him through his surgery and rehab this season."

Less than a week ago, Gamecocks head coach Frank Martin indicated during his media availability that the Brooklyn native "tweaked a knee."

The 6-foot-6 Sheppard will undergo surgery for the torn ligament this week in Columbia.
