TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Pima County Public Library and the League of Women Voters of Greater Tucson are giving the public the opportunity to register to vote in the November 2014 elections throughout July at six local libraries.

The deadline to register is July 28, according to a PCPL news release.

“Historically, a non-presidential election year has a low turnout of voters,” said Melinda Cervantes, PCPL executive director. “With the Fourth of July coming up, this collaboration with the League of Women Voters is a great way to remind everyone in our community to get informed, be heard, and that every vote counts.”

LWVGT volunteers will help people register to vote at the six locations listed:

·         Eckstrom-Columbus Branch Library

4350 E. 22nd Street

(520) 594-5285

·         Mission Branch Library

3770 S. Mission Road

(520) 594-5325

·         Martha Cooper Branch Library

1377 N. Catalina Ave.

(520) 594-5315

·         Quincie Douglas Branch Library

1585 E. 36th Street

(520) 594-5335

·         Valencia Branch Library

202 W. Valencia Road

(520) 594-5390

·         Woods Memorial Branch Library

3455 N. First Ave.

(520) 594-5445

For questions about date and times of registration, call any of the six libraries directly.

All 27 PCPLs will have free printed materials in English and Spanish about 2014 election dates, early voting, the types of identification needed for voting and information for voters registered as Independents.

“This 2014 election is very exciting because it is for congressional districts and Arizona legislative districts,” said Sue DeArmond, member of LWVGT. “Democracy is about participation. That’s what it really comes down to.”
