Report: Votto likely headed to DL

(FOX19) -

Joey Votto is likely headed back to the disabled list with same injury that sidelined him earlier this season, according to a report by FOX Sports.

Votto didn't start Sunday's game and hasn't started three of the Reds past nine games after looking visibly uncomfortable in the batter's box. The former MVP missed nearly a month of games earlier this season with a strained left quad in the same leg of his surgically repaired knee.

Votto hasn't hit a home run in nearly two months and is hitting well below his career batting average.

The Reds have not made any official announcement on their plan for Votto who told reporters before Friday's game he "has a responsibility to play" even though he's less than 100 percent.
