TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Look for construction closures on Valencia Road near I-19 through Tuesday evening as Arizona Department of Transportation crews start improving an exit ramp. Drivers heading south on I-19 towards Green Valley will see right lane closures on the Valencia Road exit ramp. This construction will start at 8 p.m. on Monday and continue through 5 on Tuesday afternoon.

Crews are installing temporary construction barriers to make things safer for long term work. This $1.69 million project, which is supposed to wrap up by February 2015, will increase the Valencia ramp's capacity and prevent traffic backups during rush hour.

Once it's complete, you'll see an extra lane on the west side of the southbound exit ramp, as well as new pavement markings and drainage systems.

Lane closures should be in place throughout the project, but at least one lane of traffic will remain open during the construction. The ramp could completely close for one weekend, but ADOT will give advanced notice of this.

Always remember to slow down and drive carefully in all work zones. Watch for workers and equipment in the area. For more information, please visit www.azdot.gov/statewide or contact the Project Hotline at 1.855.712.8530, or email at Projects@azdot.gov.
