New 2014 program guide for Tucson Parks and Recreation

Posted: Updated:
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - July is National Parks and Recreation month and Tucson is celebrating by publishing a new program guide.

According to a survey from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) nearly three out of ten adults do not spend time outside on a daily basis, and those who do spend time outside do so for less than 30 minutes.

The theme for the 2014 guide is 'OUT is IN' and it encourages everyone to spend time outside doing something they normally do inside. Try picnicking at the park, instead of sitting inside at a table and eating; hold a meeting outside, instead of the inside.

Tucson was recently recognized by the KaBOOM! Organization as a 'Playful City USA' for the eighth year in a row, and the Parks and Recreation team helped make that happen.

The new Fall 2014 guide will help residents decide what sort of programs and classes they would like to get them OUTside and INspired. The Fall 2014 guide will be published on Monday, July 14 and they can be found at any Parks and Recreation Center or facility, all Wendy's restaurants around Tucson and many local libraries, according to officials.

It can also be viewed online at beginning on Friday, July 11.

The guide contains information on leisure classes, KIDCO After-School, aquatics, sports programs and registration; as well as information on other programs and services including recreation, senior and fitness centers and the Reid Park Zoo, Tucson City Golf courses and swimming pools.

Residents and non-city residents may register for all leisure and Adaptive Aquatic classes by using either EZEEreg online at or by calling 573-3933. See the program guide for information and deadlines.
