TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -  The mother of a Mesa Police officer killed by a wrong-way driver who was in the country illegally wrote to President Obama to ask why the suspect wasn't deported.

Sgt. Brandon Mendoza was off duty on May 12 when his car was hit head-on by Raul Silva Corona. The collision killed both men.

Mendoza's mother wrote the president, demanding he explain why Corona was allowed to remain in the United States after he pleaded guilty to a criminal conspiracy charge in Colorado.

The White House has not commented.
