Autopsy to be performed on body of toddler found in Thatcher

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The latest this morning on the child's body found in Thatcher. The Pima County Medical Examiner's office is expected to perform an autopsy on the body of the toddler that was found.

The autopsy will be performed to identify the toddler and to determine the cause of death.

Thatcher Police say they served a search warrant at a home on Wednesday to look for a little girl who has not been seen since 2012.

Investigators dug up the whole yard of the home and part of the one next door. Neighbors say the missing little girl and her family lived at the home. According to police they found the body buried six feet beneath the ground.

"It appeared to be the body of a small child, it's in a sealed container that we have not opened yet," said Saffen Woods with the Thatcher Police Department.

According to police officials the mother, 28-year-old Anna Marie Sanchez, is in jail on drug related charges. She and her boyfriend are persons of interest in the little girl's disappearance and possible homicide.

Neighbors are saying the mother told them that the little girl went to live with her father in Tucson.

The medical examiner is scheduled to do the autopsy later this morning.
