TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Davis-Monthan Air Force Base officials said severe winds and heavy rain on Sunday, July 13 damaged buildings on base, base housing and led to a fighter jet flipping onto another.

Officials said the base lost power on Sunday night after power poles fell, but flying operations were back to normal by Monday afternoon and no injuries were reported.

However, the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group sustained damage after steel cables used to tie down a lightweight F-16 fighter aircraft snapped from the winds. D-M officials said the F-16, which underwent an engine removal, flipped onto another F-16. The pictures generated a lot of buzz on social media.

There was no estimated cost of damage to the fighter jet and the recovery efforts on base are ongoing.
