The public can dispose of old prescription drugs and medications at this weekend's Dispose-A-Med event, hosted by the Pima County Sheriff's Department.
Prescription and over-the-counter tablets, capsules, liquids, and creams will be accepted at the event at 4040 N. Oracle Road on Saturday, July 19 from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department collected pounds of unused or expired prescription drugs in 2013.
According to a news release, prescription drugs are one of the top illegal drugs abused by teenagers, second only to marijuana. One in five teens report intentionally misusing someone else's prescription drugs to get high.
Metal or glass inhalation aerosol bottles, syringes, epi-pens and drugs from commercial organizations will not be accepted at the event. Also, no items will be returned for confidentiality purposes.
