TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

It’s been about three and a half years since the January 8 shootings that killed six people and injured 18 others, including former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

Now plans are in place for a permanent memorial.

The Tucson January 8th Memorial Foundation is asking for the public’s help in the next phase of the memorial. It’s looking for a design team for the outside part of the memorial in El Presidio Park in downtown.

The organization seeks, but is not limited to, artists, architects and landscape architects to work individually or in a group.

Plans also call for a tribute inside the historic Pima County Courthouse to consist of items left in honor of those who died, including the items placed outside the University of Arizona Medical Center.

The total price tag for the entire memorial is about $4 million, according to officials.

The organization will decide what team was selected for the project at the beginning of 2015. Construction is not expected to get started until 2016.
