MARANA, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Oro Valley 12-year old Shane Erickson is about to spend a week living the big league life.

The Wilson K-8 7th grader is the youngest player ever invited to participate in Baseball Factory’s Under Armour National Tournament.

119 12-to-14 year olds will descend on the Pittsburgh Pirates Spring Training complex in Bradenton, Florida this weekend for a week full of intense baseball instruction and competition.

Erickson is one of three Arizonans who earned spots in the camp during tryouts held earlier this year in both Tucson and Phoenix.

He put up monster numbers this past season in the Thornydale Little League. Erickson hit 24 home runs and drove in 65 RBI in 20 games.

He blasted seven more and hit an astonishing .833 for Thornydale in the District 5 Little League Tournament. Then he went off too Hawaii with his club team Xpress 14U to play in the International World Series.

Erickson has accomplished all of this while dealing with Type 1 Diabetes since the age of 8.

Our David Kelly chatted with Shane prior to his departure for Pirate City.
