TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Two men were recently arrested, in separate incidents at the DeConcini crossing, for attempting to smuggle drugs across the border into the U.S., according to a release from Customs and Border Protection.

The first man was arrested by BP agents on July 21, after a CBP canine alerted to the presence of drugs in his car.  A secondary search of his Chevy sedan revealed 13 pounds of heroin in the car's frame, said CBP officials.  The drugs were worth an estimated $185,000.

A second arrest happened on July 22, when another CBP canine alerted to possible drugs in a Honda sedan, attempting to cross the U.S. border.  According to CBP agents,  a secondary search turned up  bundles of methamphetamine, concealed in the sedan's spare tire. The bundles were worth an estimated $50,000.

Both cars and drugs were seized. The men were turned over to U.S. ICE/HSI for processing, as they were residents of Mexico.
