DOHUK, IRAQ (Radio Free Europe/CNN) - In Iraq, hundreds of Christians marched through the city of Dohuk in the Kurdistan region of Iraq to condemn the expulsion of Christians from Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city.

Christian families were forced to flee Mosul earlier this month after Islamic State militants ordered them to convert to Islam, or pay a tax for practicing Christianity.

Those failing to follow the order would face execution.

The Dohuk protesters urged authorities in Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region to help displaced Christians and called on the international community to do more to protect them.

The demonstrators chanted and held signs.
