FC Tucson earns honors

Tucson, AZ (Tuesday, July 29, 2014) - Today, the Premier Development League announced that FC Tucson goalkeeper Billy Thompson and captain Ricardo Velazco were named to the PDL All-League team.

The All-League team is made up of the best PDL players from all four conferences. FC Tucson was one of just two clubs in the nation to have two players named to the squad. Thompson was among the top ten nationally in goals against average (0.77), wins (10) and shutouts (5). Velazco finished 2014 as the team leaders in points (18) and goals (7). He was among the top 15 players in the nation in points scored.

Thompson and Velazco were also named to the All-Conference Team, for the Western Conference, on Monday.

"It's a great honor to be recognized on the All-League team along with Ricardo," Thompson said. "This wouldn't have been possible without the commitment and sacrifices of both my teammates and the entire FC Tucson organization."

Added Velazco: "It's an honor to receive this award. But I couldn't have done it without my teammates or the coaching staff."

Thompson and Velazco become the first two players in the club's history to receive All-League honors. They become the second and third players in club history to be named to the All-Conference Team. In 2012, Conor Spence became the club's first player to be named to the All-Conference Team.
