TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Family, friends and students of St. Augustine’s cross country and track coach Al Buhl will run in his memory this Saturday through the wine country that he so loved.

The 1st Red Beard Rally Run will start at 8 a.m. August 2nd at Elgin Community Club.

Runners can participate in either a 5k or a 10k run and proceeds from the event will go to Cultivate Santa Cruz and the St. Augustine Catholic High School Scholarship fund.

Buhl died of brain cancer last November.

A career Army-man, Buhl lived by the mantra, “hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”

The longtime runner began instilling that theme into his kids when he started the cross country and track programs upon the establishment of St. Augustine Catholic in 2003.

The result was 24 state championships for the school of 130 students.

Buhl was also known throughout Arizona for his wine making at Dos Cabezos Vineyards.

After the race there will be a wine tasting from 9-11 a.m. at the Elgin Club.
