TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Sunday started early for the Tucson Scramblers 18U Softball team. But when it ended it was all worth it.

The Scramblers won the ASA Western Nationals with a 14-4 victory over the Pacific Coast Predators from Southern California.

It was the 4th game of the day for the Scramblers whose run started at 8 a.m. with a game they lost to the Predators 4-3.

The defeat sent Tucson to the Elimination bracket where they were forced to play their way back. That the Scramblers did, first beating the Arizona Hotshot-Dolans 20-14 and following that up with two straight wins over the Predators (9-3 and 14-4).

Tucson finished the 17-team tournament with just the lone lose to the Predators, coming away with eight wins.

Club general manager Louie Gonzales started the Tucson Scramblers 28 years ago and this is the squad's first title at Nationals.
