YUNNAN PROVINCE, CHINA (CCTV/CNN) - In southwestern China, heavy rain and aftershocks are hampering rescue efforts following a 6.1 magnitude earthquake in Yunnan Province on Sunday.

Thousands of volunteers have joined troops and rescue teams and are trying to dig residents out of collapsed homes.

Conditions are making it difficult to get supplies to those who need them.

State media reports the death toll stands at about 400.

Tens of thousands of homes have been damaged, many of them beyond repair.
