Luis Bernal, 16, is charged with first-degree murder for his connection to the death of a man in midtown Tucson.

Police arrested Bernal at his home on the south side Friday without an issue.

His criminal charge comes from the investigation into the death of David Martinez, 66, who police found dead in his home near Grant and Fairview in July. A coworker called 911 after Martinez had not shown up for work.

Bernal knew Martinez, according to a spokesperson for Tucson Police Department. Bernal’s mother has a child in common with the victim.

The teen’s aunt answered the door at his home Sunday afternoon. She said the family was in shock and did not have anything to say.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges and/or arrests are pending.
