Two dozen Arizona firefighters headed to Washington

Posted: Updated:
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -  With wildfires continuing to blaze across Washington, 25 Arizona fightfighters left Tucson on Sunday morning to assist in the firefight.

The firefighters were in Oregon for the last two weeks and then returned to Southern Arizona for a mandatory two-day rest period. They will now make the trip north once again to assist wherever they are needed most.

The unit, which is known as a Type 2 Initial Attack unit, will arrive in the Pacific Northwest on Tuesday.

It has fortunately been a relatively quiet fire season in Southern Arizona. The Deer Head fire continues to burn, but U.S. Forest Service officials say there are plenty of crews available if it begins to spread uncontrollably.
