Know Before You Go: Week of August 11

 LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The following closures and lane restrictions are expected the rest of this week in connection with construction on the Downtown and East End crossings:

Downtown Crossing

Work Currently Underway

Louisville Streets:

 •Hancock Street from Main Street to Washington Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, August 30 for demolition work in the area. A signed detour will be in place.

 •Intermittent closures are scheduled on Witherspoon Street from Adams Street to River Road through Monday, August 25 for demolition work in the area. A signed detour will be in place.

 •Intermittent overnight lane closures are scheduled on Mellwood Avenue under I-64 through Monday, August 25 for demolition work in the area, leaving only one lane of Mellwood Avenue open to traffic.

 •Intermittent lane closures are scheduled on Story Avenue under I-64 through Monday, August 25 for demolition work in the area, leaving only one lane of Story Avenue open to traffic. 

 •Intermittent closures are scheduled on Frankfort Avenue from Story Avenue to River Road through Monday, August 25 for work in the area. Local access will be available between Story Avenue and Washington Street. A signed detour will be in place.

 •Intermittent closures are scheduled on Jefferson Street from Jackson Street to Floyd Street through Monday, August 25 for demolition work. A signed detour will be in place.

 •Intermittent closures are scheduled on Main Street from Hancock Street to Jackson Street through Monday, August 25 for demolition work. A signed detour will be in place. 

 •Intermittent closures are scheduled on Market Street from Jackson Street to Hancock Street through Monday, August 25 for demolition and dirt work. A signed detour will be in place.

 •Intermittent closures are scheduled on Floyd Street from Muhammad Ali Boulevard to Liberty Street through Monday, August 25 for demolition work. A signed detour will be in place.

 •Intermittent closures are scheduled on Liberty Street from Floyd Street to Preston Street through Monday, August 25 for demolition work. A signed detour will be in place. 

 •Intermittent closures are scheduled on Preston Street from Jefferson Street to Liberty Street through Monday, August 25 for demolition work. A signed detour will be in place.

 •Intermittent closures are scheduled on Jackson Street from Jefferson Street to Market Street through Monday, August 25 for dirt work. A signed detour will be in place.

Work Scheduled for This Week:

Kentucky Side

Work scheduled to begin Monday, August 11:

 •The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 North is scheduled to close overnight Monday, August 11-Saturday, August 16 for demolition work. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day. A signed detour will be in place. 

 •The ramp from Story Avenue to I-64 West is scheduled to close overnight Monday, August 11-Saturday, August 16 for work in the area. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day. A signed detour will be in place.

 •Only one lane of I-64 West from the Story Avenue ramp to the I-65 split is scheduled to be open overnight Monday, August 11-Saturday, August 16 for work in the area. Lane closures are expected to begin around 9 p.m. and end by 5 a.m. each day.

 •One lane of I-65 South from the Kennedy Bridge to Muhammad Ali Boulevard is scheduled to close overnight Monday, August 11-Saturday, August 16 for pile driving. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day. 

 •One lane of I-65 North from just past Brook Street to the Kennedy Bridge is scheduled to close overnight Monday, August 11-Saturday, August 16 for pile driving. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

 •One lane of I-64 East from 9th Street to the Kennedy Bridge is scheduled to close overnight Monday, August 11-Saturday, August 16 for demolition work. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day. 

Work scheduled for Thursday, August 14

 •Rolling closures are expected project-wide Thursday, August 14 for pothole patching. Work is scheduled 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Indiana Side

 •Market Street from the Kennedy Bridge to Fort Street is scheduled to close Monday, August 11 to set beams in the area. It's expected to be closed for about two weeks. A signed detour will be in place.

Continuing Closures and Restrictions:

 •The Clark Memorial Bridge is closed to vehicular, foot and bike traffic. It closed Tuesday, July 8 for intensive work on the Indiana approach to the bridge. It's expected to remain closed for about six weeks.

Kentucky Side:

 •The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 South closed July 15, 2013 and is expected to be closed through the spring of 2016.

 •I-65 North from Muhammad Ali Boulevard to Witherspoon Street has been reduced from three through lanes of traffic to two, with the right lane a mandatory exit to Muhammad Ali Boulevard. The lane reduction is expected to continue into 2015.

 •The right lane of I-65 South from the Jefferson Street ramp to Muhammad Ali Boulevard closed July 15, 2013 and is expected to be closed through 2016. 

Indiana Side:

 •Broadway Street has closed from Court Avenue to 6th Street. This includes the closure of the 6th Street ramp to I-65 North. These are permanent closures.

 •7th Street has closed from Missouri Avenue to Broadway Street. This is a permanent closure.

 •VFW Boulevard has closed from 7th Street to 9th Street. This is a permanent closure.                                                              

 •US 31-South (Exit Ramp 1) from Brown Station Way to Stansifer Avenue has been reduced to two lanes.

 •US 31-South, in the area just south of Stansifer Avenue, has been reduced to one lane.  Vehicles are still able to exit onto 10th Street. 

 •The northbound collector distributor ramp in Jeffersonville has been reduced to one lane between 10th Street and Stansifer Avenue. The closure will be in place through late 2015.

 •Missouri Avenue is closed between Court Avenue and S. Clark Boulevard for extensive utility work in the area.

The actual starting date and duration for the work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur. Also, given the aggressive overall construction schedule for the project, Walsh DBT may shift work schedules when opportunities arise. East End Crossing:

Indiana side:

Blasting schedule for week of Aug. 11:

Blasting to prepare for the East End Crossing is scheduled to occur in Indiana during the week of Aug. 4, 2014. Blasting will occur on Brookhollow Road between the Boulder Creek and Brookhollow subdivisions. These blasts do NOT require traffic stops.

The dates and approximate times (within 15 minutes) will be:

 •Monday, Aug. 11, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 4:30 p.m.

 •Tuesday, Aug. 12, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 4:30 p.m.

 •Wednesday, Aug. 13, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 4:30 p.m.

 •Thursday, Aug. 14, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 4:30 p.m.

 •Friday, Aug. 15, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 4:30 p.m.

Indiana: Lane restrictions on SR 62 Aug. 11-15:

There will be lane restrictions on SR 62 in Indiana in the vicinity of the SR 265 and SR 62 interchange Aug. 11-15, 2014 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. each day. The lane restrictions will be in place for about a half mile in each direction of the interchange. Motorists are asked to use caution and drive slowly when driving in the area during this time.

Indiana: Lane restrictions on Upper River Road Aug. 11-15:

There will be lane restrictions in Indiana on Upper River Road in the vicinity of the East End Crossing construction site Aug. 11-15, 2014 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. each day. Flaggers will be present during this time to assist in guiding traffic. Motorists are asked to use caution when in the area.

Kentucky side:

Lane restrictions on River Road Aug. 11-15:

There will be lane restrictions in Kentucky on River Road in the vicinity of Wolf Pen Branch Road and Timber Ridge Drive Aug. 11-15, 2014. Flaggers will be present during this time to assist in guiding traffic. Motorists are asked to use caution when in the area.

Kentucky: Blasting schedule for week of Aug. 11:

Blasting to prepare for the new tunnel in the east end of Louisville is scheduled to occur during the week of Aug. 11, 2014.

Surface Blasting: Surface blasting, which began in June 2013 in the east end of Louisville near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841, requires traffic stops. Surface blasting takes place Monday through Saturday during morning and afternoon hours. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Traffic stops during the blasts will occur on KY 841 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and U.S. 42, and on U.S. 42 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and Bridgepointe Boulevard.

The dates and approximate times for surface blasting (within 15 minutes) will be:

 •Monday, Aug. 11, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.

 •Tuesday, Aug. 12, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.

 •Wednesday, Aug. 13, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.

 •Thursday, Aug. 14, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.

 •Friday, Aug. 15, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.

 •Saturday, Aug. 16, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.

Tunnel Blasting: Underground tunnel blasting, which began in January 2014 in the east end of Louisville near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841, does NOT require traffic stops. This blasting takes place Monday through Saturday during morning and afternoon hours. The noise from blasts may be noticeable, but the blasts pose no risk to the traveling public and local residents. Construction for the underground tunnel requires 24-hour work activities Monday through Saturday, and will continue throughout 2014.

The dates and approximate times for tunnel blasting will be:

 •Monday, Aug. 11, at about 6:30 a.m.

 •Tuesday, Aug. 12, at about 6:30 a.m.

 •Wednesday, Aug. 13, at about 6:30 a.m.

 •Thursday, Aug. 14, at about 6:30 a.m.

 •Friday, Aug. 15, at about 6:30 a.m.

Surface Blasting will also take place at the north portal of the tunnel. The north portal is located in the vicinity of Shadow Wood Lane and Shadow Wood Drive. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public.

The dates and approximate times for surface blasting (within 15 minutes) will be:

 •Monday, Aug. 11, at about 4 p.m.

 •Tuesday, Aug. 12, at about 4 p.m.

 •Wednesday, Aug. 13, at about 4 p.m.

 •Thursday, Aug. 14, at about 4 p.m.

 •Friday, Aug. 15, at about 4 p.m.

 •Saturday, Aug. 16, at about 10 a.m. and again at about 4 p.m.

Surface Blasting is also scheduled to occur near the intersection of Springdale Road and Wolf Pen Branch Road. The surface blasting at this location began in April 2014. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Traffic stops during the blasts will occur on Springdale Road at the Green Spring Drive intersection, and on Wolf Pen Branch Road from Wolfpen Woods Drive to Green Spring Drive.

The dates and approximate times for surface blasting (within 15 minutes) will be:

 •Monday, Aug. 11, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.

 •Tuesday, Aug. 12, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.

 •Wednesday, Aug. 13, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.

 •Thursday, Aug. 14, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.

 •Friday, Aug. 15, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.

 •Saturday, Aug. 16, at about 9:30 a.m., at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.

NOTE: A message will be posted on the project website at www.kyinbridges.com Thursday of each week regarding the anticipated blasting schedule for the following week. Pre-blast surveys are ongoing; no blasting will occur within 500 feet of any residence prior to the completion of a pre-blast survey for that residence.
