Part of downtown Nashville will soon be getting safer for cyclists.
Metro Public Works is putting in the first bike box, a designated area painted at the head of an intersection, in place next Thursday on Church Street at Ninth Avenue North.
The bike box will serve as an advanced stop bar, creating space between cars and cyclists.
When the traffic signal is red, drivers must stop behind the white stop line. When the light turns green, drivers and cyclists may continue through the intersection as usual, with cyclists going first.
