Metro Police hold teenage driver awareness class

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The Metropolitan Police Department is taking applications for a free teenage driver awareness class for ages 14-18 set for next month.

Police said the class will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13 at the department's South Precinct, located at 5101 Harding Place.

The class, taught by Nashville police officers, will not offer behind the wheel training, but rather focus on impaired driving, distracted driving and overall traffic safety.

Parents interested in registering their teens for the program should email Erika Bowden the following information:

  • Teen's name
  • Teen's date of birth
  • Home address
  • School attended
  • Parent's telephone number
  • Parent's email address

Enrollment in the class is limited.

Metro Police have conducted 27 Teenage Driver Awareness Classes since the inception of the program in 2011.

The postal inspection service is offering up a pretty hefty reward after a package was stolen from a Tucson woman's doorstep. This wasn't a Christmas present, it was something much more precious, a father's ashes.
