Woman sentenced in drug-related toddler death

ORO VALLEY, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A Tucson woman is going to prison for the drug-related death of her 18-month-old son.

Oro Valley Police said tests showed Patrick Michael Smith had lethal levels of methadone in his system when he died in February 2012. Methadone is a drug frequently used to help heroin addicts.

His mother Donna Rose Smith was arrested and charged with first degree murder. She pleaded guilty on Monday, Aug. 18 to manslaughter and fraud and was sentenced to 10 and a half years in prison.
