AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn University is wrapping up work on the first phase of its renovation of Toomer's Corner.

Replicas of the Auburn eagles that used to stand atop brick pillars are going up Friday, ending the initial part of the project.

The next major step is planting new oak trees to replace the ones that an Alabama football fan killed with poison after Auburn defeated the Crimson Tide in 2010.

Renovation work began in March at the corner, where Auburn fans traditionally gather after victories. Workers have since poured concrete, installed brick pavers, landscaped the area and built a circular seating wall.

The original eagles from Toomer's corner will be permanently placed on campus at Samford Hall.

Auburn began revamping the corner after removing trees that were killed by the poisoning.
