TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Local 'sock' piling event collected more than 3,000 pairs for the Socks for Soldiers drive.

A partnership between Larry H. Miller Chrysler Jeep Tucson and 96.1 KLPX helped gather 3,000 socks for Tucson Area Marine Moms. This was 1,000 more socks than was collected in 2013.

Of those donations 328 came directly from Larry H. Miller Chrysler Jeep Tucson dealership and its employees.  As an added bonus for members of the public the dealership offered free oil changes to those who donated six or more pairs of socks to the campaign.

“It's a point of pride for us to give back to our military, which gives so much to us,” said Larry Watts, general manager of Larry H. Miller Chrysler Jeep Tucson, in a recent release.  Watts has a son who is an active member of the United States Navy. “We are so pleased to have been a part of this important campaign.”

Sponsoring businesses of the charity drive were provided certificates of participation in gratitude from Tucson Area Marine Moms, whose mission is to provide emotional support for mothers of active duty Marines throughout the phases of her son or daughter's military career, to include training, active duty and deployment.
