(CNN) – A Hamas official says Hamas militants were responsible for kidnapping and killed three Israeli teens who disappeared earlier this summer.

Saleh Aruri says the militants did not inform Hamas leaders or its military wing about the kidnapping.

The bodies of Eyal Yifrach, Gilad Shaar and Naftali Frenkel were discovered in early July.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later vowed that Hamas would “pay for the killings.”
