With their showdown against Texas A&M just three days away, the South Carolina Gamecocks took Monday's practice to continue focusing on vital keys in hopes of pulling out a win on Thursday.

Fifth-year senior Dylan Thompson looks to lead Steve Spurrier's offense as the starting quarterback and, according to quarterbacks coach G.A. Mangus, he's ready to do just that.

"He's had a good camp," Mangus said. "He's excited and ready to go. Dylan knows it's his game from start to finish."

Should misfortune befall the Gamecocks forcing Thompson to leave the game, South Carolina would turn either to Connor Mitch or Perry Orth. While Mangus wouldn't say who would be second on the depth chart against the Aggies, he hopes the experience they're getting in practice would be beneficial to them.

"They're both doing some good things," said Mangus. "They're both young. They both haven't played a bunch. They're splitting a bunch of reps in practice. Right now, it's all about knowledge. The more they play, the better they get. We'll see how it goes."

Keeping Thompson up right will be key and the Gamecocks' offensive line will be charged with that task this season. Unfortunately, South Carolina will be missing Mike Matulis due to a knee injury suffered in a scrimmage. As of Monday, offensive line coach Shawn Elliott has not decided whether to start Cody Waldrop or Will Sport at right guard.

According to Elliott, Waldrop may be the better choice at guard opening the door for a slight change for the redshirt sophomore.

"The first change is it takes the responsibility of snapping the football," Elliott said. "It gives him the opportunity of being more aggressive. Playing the center position, you have to understand both sides of it. You've got to be an intelligent guy to go out here and make the right calls."

The Gamecocks will return to the Bluff Road practice fields at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
