Tucson, Ariz. – The University of Arizona Wildcat soccer team will host the first home match of the 2014 season on Thursday, Aug. 28. Arizona will compete against the Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks on Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium.

The Wildcats boast a 6-0-2 record against the Lumberjacks, the most recent matchup coming in 2012 when Arizona won 3-0. The Lumberjacks are currently 0-2 on the season, dropping games to UNLV (1-2) and UC Riverside (2-4). Haley Wingender has scored the only two goals for the Lumberjacks thus far, the other was an own goal in their favor.

After two games, the Wildcats have had three goals from three different players. Senior forward Alexandra Doller scored the first goal of the season for the Wildcats. She has the most shot attempts (5) and points (3) on the team through two matches. Doller assisted on sophomore Paige Crouch's goal, a sophomore that has returned to action after missing nearly all of 2013 with a knee injury. Freshman Charlotte Brascia has shown that she is a capable forward for the Wildcats at the Division I level. She scored the lone goal of the game for Arizona against Florida Gulf Coast along with other multiple scoring chances. Brascia also assisted on what would have been the game-winning goal by junior Kaitlyn Lopez, but the official ruled that the ball did not cross the line in time.

On the defensive side, the Wildcats have an experienced group of defenders in front of senior goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman. Juniors Sheaffer Skadsen and Alexa Montgomery, senior Mykaylin Rosenquist and sophomore Laura Pimienta along with many substitutions make-up the back four for the Wildcats. The team effort defensively stifled Florida International, not allowing a goal and only forcing Kaufman to make one save per half.

Arizona has played 21 student-athletes in the two games thus far, taking full advantage of the depth this team has.
