American Red Cross still in need of blood donations

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The American Red Cross continues to have an urgent need for blood donors of all blood types. The need is still high, according to Red Cross officials, even with an increase in donations after a late July push.  

Donors with O, A and B negative blood are especially needed.  

To encourage donations over the Labor Day holiday weekend, those who donate blood from August 30 through September 1, will receive a Red Cross mason jar tumbler, while supplies last.

In order to be eligible to donate, a person must be 17 years old (or 16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health; those in high school or 18 years old or younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements. Also required is a driver's license or a blood donor card or two other forms of identification be brought with the donor at the time of check in.
