PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) -

Disturbing pictures of an injured kindergartner from Pascagoula have made a mother's call for action go viral online. Friends and family of a Pascagoula kindergarten student have created a Facebook page and GoFundMe.com account claiming the girl was attacked on the playground this week by another student.

Lacey Harris, the mother of the girl who has only been identified as Avalynn, posted images of the girl after she was injured on Facebook. The friends and family of a Pascagoula kindergarten student have created a Facebook page and GoFundMe.com account claiming the girl was attacked on the playground this week by another student.

Lacey Harris, the mother of the girl who has only been identified as Avalynn, posted images of the girl on Facebook, after she was injured.

On the Justice for AvaLynn Facebook page, which Harris tells us is being operated by a family friend, there's an account of the events on Tuesday.

The page says AvaLynn told her mother that she was kicked repeatedly in the face by another student until she fell off a slide at the playground of Arlington Elementary School. That page also points to improper supervision as one of the reasons for the incident.

But Pascagoula School District officials released a statement Friday with a different account. Director of communications Debbie Anglin stated, "A student was injured while playing on the playground at Arlington Elementary School Tuesday afternoon. School officials responded to the situation. The parent was contacted and the student received medical treatment."

The statement went on to say, "No other children were involved in the incident. The Pascagoula School District remains committed to the safety of all its students."

Pascagoula Police have confirmed to us that a report was filed about the incident on Tuesday. Lacey Harris also confirmed she started a page on GoFundMe.com to raise money for medical bills, lost wages, travel costs, and legal expenses. In just two days that page has raised more than $5,000.

Harris told WLOX News she will not be making an official statement to the media until she consults with legal counsel.

It should be noted, the most recent post on the Justice for AvaLynn Facebook page warns of copycat pages being set up for fundraising. The creators of the original page wrote they have not set up pages on Instagram, Twitter, Reddit, or Tumblr. And solicitations for money through any of those sites are not legitimate.
