COLUMBIA, SC (TheBigSpur.com) - South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier said during his Sunday teleconference that running back Mike Davis is doubtful for Saturday night's game against East Carolina.

Davis left the game in the second half against Texas A&M with bruised ribs, which have been bothering him off and on since the first scrimmage in fall camp.

"Right now, he's sort of doubtful," Spurrier said. "Our trainers said he's not practicing for a few days. I guess later in the week, we'll see how he's conditioned. It's a bad bruise, bruised ribs, and it's painful right now."

Spurrier said backup Brandon Wilds will start and Shon Carson will play as well.

The Head Ball Coach also says that David Williams will see some action.

"David needs to play a little bit," Spurrier said. "He's going on his second year here now. He's a good sized back and I think he needs to carry the ball some. He will probably get some carries this coming week."

Dylan Thompson threw for three touchdowns and No. 24 South Carolina's maligned defense stood strong on a fourth-quarter goal line stand to topple No. 6 Georgia 38-35 on Saturday night.
No. 24 South Carolina's defense showed it's not nearly as bad as it looked two weeks ago - and maybe that No. 6 Georgia isn't the runaway favorite in the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division.

Georgia can establish itself as a top-tier beast if it gets by South Carolina this weekend - and USC would drop to 0-2 in the league with a loss. Tennessee travels to Oklahoma, where Coach Bob Stoops doesn't believe the SEC is all-powerful.
