Update: Sadly, the boy succumbed to his injuries and died late last night, according to TPD Sgt. Chris Widmer.

At 7:54 p.m. Saturday, 6-year old David Araos was walking with his 13-year-old brother when attempted to cross Broadway from the south side of the street to the north, stopping in the middle universal lane. A 6-year-old-boy is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was hit by a car Saturday night in Tucson.

The accident happened near the intersection of Broadway and Plumer, according to Sergeant Chris Widmer with the Tucson Police Department.

Widmer said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the accident, and early indicators show that the driver was not at fault.

The initial call for help came in just before 8 o' clock Saturday night.

Broadway between Plumer and Tucson Boulevard will be closed for several hours.

You would think the time on the front lines got the best of Louis Mirabelli. He has spent a week fighting the Sawmill Fire, since the first 911 call came in southeast of Green Valley on Sunday, April 23, around noon. Since then, he's been sleeping in tents, under the smoky stars, with a regimented three square meals a day.
