Pima County judge finds Richter competent for sisters held captive trial

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A Tucson man accused of holding his wife's three daughters captive was found competent to stand trial.

The judge at Pima County Superior Court also ordered evaluations to see if Fernando Richter qualifies as guilty except insane.

He and his wife Sophia face kidnapping and child abuse charges after being accused of holding three of Sophia's daughters in prison-like isolation for about two years inside their homes in Tucson and Catalina.

The girls escaped their midtown home last fall and got help from a neighbor.
