Special speaker for the Jan. 10 event is Janine Hernbrode who will speak about Petroglyphs of the Sutherland Wash Rock Art District: Flowers, and Birds, and Butterflies, Oh My.
Janine Hernbrode, an independent rock art researcher, assembled and led a group of 15 volunteers in a seven-year effort to record the rock art in the Sutherland Wash Rock Art District located east of Catalina. This is the largest concentration of petroglyphs in Southern Arizona. Combining what we know from that data, the archaeological investigations in this area, and historical accounts of native people have yielded hints into the meanings and purposes of the rock art.
